Class Blog #2 Twilight? Good Literature?
I have had many discussions with my friends in class about whether or not the Twilight series should be considered good literature. Let's face it, the answer is no. Most young adult series and books are technically not good literature, but they prey on the young minds who have yet to care about whether or not something is written perfectly. If YA novels were good literature then they would get more attention from other audiences. When being honest with ourselves we realize that this is the truth, but we don't really care because perfection isn't exactly what we are looking for. We want something that intrigues or inspires us, and that is what a lot of YA novels do. That is why they may sell amazingly but they still aren't technically good literature.

I agree. It's hard to compare classic literature to today's novels. In fact, I'm often a little peeved when people try to. More often than not, YA books usually have such similar plots and themes that eventually they all start to run together and you can't differentiate between them anymore.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with this. If Twilight was considered "good literature" then it would be put on a reading list for teachers and it would become a classic. I do not think that generations down the road Twilight will be a classic. Someone else will write a book series similar or perhaps written better and it will over shadow the Twilight series. This series was an impact to this generation, but I don't think it will carry over to the next.
ReplyDeleteI would have to disagree. I feel the true question is what do you consider good literature? Its all about perception of the term used. You speak as if its a personal preference of yours based on how it was written. I personally think good literature is determined by popularity. Good literature is any thing that gets people reading. Good literature is any thing that gets people talking. If Twilight was not considered good literature by the masses it would not have the success it has. My personal opinion dose not constitute what is good literature for any one else but myself.
