Future of the Twilight Saga

Part of our discussion in class on Monday was talking about the future of Twilight and whether or not talking about the popular series would change someone's perspective or opinion. Though I admit that I like certain aspects and characters of Twilight, I don't consider myself a fan or "Twihard" by any means and my feelings on the subject are somewhat mixed. While talking about the series, whether in a positive or negative manner could certainly change opinions for better or worse, I don't feel that Twilight is a book that should warrant such "important" discussions. Part 2 of Breaking Dawn, the last movie to be released in November, will be the end of the main commercial aspects of the books and movies. Once the hype from it dies down, it's realistic to believe that discussions about it will decrease, though probably not the madness from fans. Merchandise will continue to be sold and fans will continue to talk, but without new material for them to discuss that the newly released movies continue to bring, it's bound to slow at least a bit. However, for the sake of this blog, since I've decided to talk about it, I feel that I'm somewhat giving fans or critics new material to critique, though that isn't the purpose of this blog post. Talking about it could change people's opinions, I admit, but I doubt that I would ever try to. I simply don't feel the need to do so, because the series isn't that important to me, despite the parts of it that I enjoy. I believe that talking about it, like I tried to explain in class, could open up it up to new people or increase the fan base whether I meant to or not. If they disagree with my opinion, which would probably be more realistic and critical than most fans would appreciate, then they may want to see the book for themselves, because it's likely that they may enjoy it. If they agree with my opinion, they may write the book off and choose another. Twilight has a future. That much is certain. People will continue to read them and talk about them much like they do with other works of literature. It’s really never ending.

  1. I feel like its less about Twilight and more about Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Once they are in other good movies I think it will start to shift attention from Twilight and move to follow them.
