I must admit, after talking about this in class the other
day, I realized that I am the victim of a new type of bloodsucker: The
technological vampire. Often accused of entering a room, with or without
invitation, and stealing energy and reveling in their intended victims (e.g.
me) exhaustion, this vampire is an ever-present monster that has already taken
over the world and my everyday life, though I am reluctant and unsure as to the
proper method to fix this issue and bring it to an appropriate conclusion. I am
what you would call the typical computer nerd/geek. You can often find me
planted in from of my laptop at all hours of the day, including the early hours
of the morning, when most rational or sane people are tucked away in their beds
unconscious and in dream land. Finding the internet to be a constant and
ever-present source of amusement, I have a hard time shutting of my laptop
until I am slumped over in my dorm chair on the verge of passing out. Hearing
the comparison that the Internet is like a vampire, stated in class, I found it
amusing to find that the discussion was completely accurate for my situation.
After I got over the mental image of my computer sprouting fangs and attacking
me with a viscous fervor, I thought about why I exhaust myself on the internet
every night: The World Wide Web is endless. There are multiple mysterious to
solve and there is an infinite amount of information left to discover. For the
curiosity driven, like me, the Internet is a virtual haven to explore, that coincidentally also happens to possess immortality.
